Nate Stegemiller makes custom textured art by hand — sculptural pieces in carved plaster and pigment, built around your space, your scale, and your palette.
The work
Every piece is made to order. We start from your space and the feeling you want in it, then I build a one-of-a-kind relief painting by hand in the studio — no two are alike.
Tell me about your space, dimensions, and the palette you're drawn to. We talk through scale, budget, and timeline.
I share a direction — composition, colorway, and surface treatment — tailored to your room and refined together until it's right.
The piece is carved and layered in plaster and acrylic over several weeks, finished as a sculptural object made to catch raking light.
Collect the finished piece from the Brooklyn studio, with local hand-delivery and installation available across the New York area.
From intimate single panels to large statement walls and multi-panel diptychs.
Hand-carved plaster, acrylic, and mixed media on cradled wood panel.
Typically 4–8 weeks from approved concept, depending on size and queue.
Fully custom — muted greens, deep teals, cobalt, earthen neutrals, and beyond.

About
Nate Stegemiller is a visual artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. His relief paintings begin as carved fields of plaster, where winding negative-space channels are cut away and flooded with color — surfaces that sit somewhere between a topographic map and a coastline seen from above.
He works almost entirely on commission, building each piece by hand around the space it's destined for. Drawn to the meeting points of natural systems — where water finds its path, where ridgelines fold — he treats every wall as its own landscape. Wherever he can, he builds on reclaimed and upcycled frames and materials — a quiet commitment to sustainability that also helps keep the work affordable, with no difference in the finished piece.
His work lives in private homes and collections across the United States and Europe. He takes on a limited number of commissions at a time to keep each one personal.
